Interfaith Children’s Quilt Project

November 14, 2010

Last year’s 6th grade students participated in a very special Interfaith Children’s Quilt program, sponsored by the [singlepic id=11 w=320 h=240 mode=web20 float=right]Jewish Federation of Monmouth County.  The students were involved in an educational program at Congregational Torat El focusing on peace and charity.  Simultaneously, 14 other institutions representing the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim communities were providing the same education to students from their Religious Schools.  This program culminated in the creation of an Interfaith Quilt, which was the result of each student from all 15 institutions designing one square.  The quilt is being shipped to be displayed at the office of the Governor of New Jersey, and possibly the White House.  On Sunday, November 14, 2010, a special reception was held at Congregation Torat El honoring all of the students who participated in this special program.  In addition to the children who participated in this program along with their families, guests included clergy from the Jewish, Christian, and Islamic communities, as well as Congressman Rush Holt.  The Interfaith Quilt was prominently displayed at the reception.  Congratulations to all of the students (and their families) who participated in this most meaningful project.
